Cloud migration to EU hosting with CI/CD and monitoring

The infrastructure had been built by three developers over four years: manual deploys, one production environment, no staging and a monthly bill growing faster than revenue. Two enterprise customers demanded EU hosting and NIS2-appropriate measures for the next contract year.

Every deploy meant fifteen minutes of downtime on a Friday afternoon. Nobody dared touch the database settings.

First an audit: every component, dependency and cost mapped, plus a risk list. Then infrastructure as code with Terraform on a European provider, containers on Kubernetes, separate staging and production environments and a CI/CD pipeline with tests, blue/green deploys and automatic rollback.

The migration itself ran in three steps: staging and read-along first, then a controlled data migration in a 40-minute maintenance window, then the DNS switch. Monitoring and alerts were on before the first user logged in.

Security hardening followed in the same eight weeks: MFA and SSO for admin, secrets management, encrypted backups with restore tests, logging and an incident response plan.

A European, documented infrastructure where the team deploys daily without downtime, with dashboards for performance, cost and errors. NIS2 readiness recorded in a document the enterprise customers accepted.

Cloud costs dropped from €6,100 to €3,600 per month; uptime in the first nine months was 99.98%.
